Guess I will have a go at one of these... stumbled across this recent item... but perhaps this is more of an obscure Haley reference... anyway...
According to the on-line edition of the "Tribune-Star" newspaper, from Terre Haute, Indiana... in an article that is focused primarily on the importance of the film industry to the state of Indiana, we find this brief snippet...
Quote:
"...Malone's mention of that Southern state isn't mere coincidence. Both Indiana and North Carolina are being considered as the site for the upcoming film "Home of the Giants," which will star Haley Joel Osment , he explained.
"Home of the Giants" is set in present-day Indiana high school basketball. And its director and screenwriter is Marion native Rusty Gorman. Those ties would seem to make Hoosierland a no-brainer as the picture's location. "So we're hoping that we can have that here," Malone says." |
However, after much checking about... it would seem that this is the only mention that such a project even exists, which leaves me quite skeptical. There is not even a mention for "Home of the Giants" as a possible movie, or even a screenplay... which is a tad odd, considering they appear to be scouting locations.
Oh well... on with the PHP...
PRO: Based on what little is known, in fact all that is known is what I have quoted... the film is set in high school, which Haley currently is... so it would be another step to show that he very much is indeed growing up, to help make the transition into the world of adult acting films. Haley also really likes basketball, so I'm sure he would have a lot of fun with this one. I would guess that this would primarily be a character piece, instead of it being another "sports" film, and Haley is simply brilliant at becoming his character.
CON: There already was a basketball movie, set in Indiana, in the local high school... a brilliant little film called, "Hoosiers". They mention that film in the article, and it would be very difficult for anything to even come close... so why the what seemingly appears to be a remake? Although I'm sure Indiana state basketball is quite exciting, there does not seem to be much room here for anything but your rural, small town, high school drama when the focus is away from the game.
ASSESSMENT: I doubt this is real, and I doubt this is what Haley would be looking for. Rumours like this float around often enough for every high profile actor... and Haley is no exception. Then again, if someone would have said early enough that Haley was coming to Pflugerville, Texas to make a film with a bunch of dogs and a pig... who would have believed that. |
