Indianapolis
- Actors and directors gathered at Conseco Fieldhouse tonight to kickoff the 16th
Heartland Film Festival. Not only is the building the scene for the opening ceremony,
but it also serves as the backdrop for one of the films in this year's festival.
Haley
Joel Osment plays a high school newspaper reporter for in "Home of the Giants",
which is set in Marion. The film was shot on a tight schedule and even tighter
budget. Written and directed by Rusty Gorman, most of the film is based on Gorman's
own high school experiences in Indiana. It's a film about basketball, and the
director made sure all involved know the importance of basketball in Indiana. "As
the story goes, you can see how it is a part of life around here," Osment
said. In the movie, Osment is befriended
by a high school basketball star, who turns out not to be so friendly after all.
If you think you recognize parts of Indiana in this film, think again. This is
Osment's first trip to Indiana. "It's
terrific," Osment said. "I have never been to Indiana before despite
of where this movie takes place. We shot it in Greensburg, North Carolina." Some
of the background film was shot in Indiana during the 2005 Boys State Basketball
Championship. Outside of that, the film was completed in North Carolina, and according
to Osment, most of it at night. "Home
of the Giants" is being shown twice during the Heartland Film Festival.
